National Gym Champions Again – 15/03/2017
The Academy are celebrating having won the National Schools Gymnastics Championship for the second year in a row. The quartet of Sophie Baldwin, Millie Marshall, Georgia Ban-Murray and Louis Thomas competed in the mixed U16 Milano Team National Finals in Stoke on Trent on 10th March, where they had to deliver both individual pieces together with a group routine.
The Academy work in close partnership with Knutsford based Gymfinity who support and deliver the Gymnastics at the Academy, Head of PE Nikki Walsh commented, “We are absolutely thrilled with this achievement and so pleased for the team, this is a great example of a local sporting partnership and the fantastic support we receive from Lily and Gymfinity is central to this success.”
Head coach Lily Rees added, “The 4 gymnasts have shown great dedication and commitment to the school and the sport not just over the last few months but the last few years. Retaining the National title was always going to be a challenge. The team was up against 15 other groups from schools all across the country at what ended up being a 10 hour competition. Each of their performances were outstanding, achieving some of the highest scores of the whole day. Each of these performances contributed to an outstanding overall team score that saw them win the 2 national titles for the second year running. A very proud moment for all involved.”
