Sixth Form Charity Concert Raises over £1300 – 18/05/2017
Knutsford Academy and the Rotary Club of Knutsford combined together to host a charity concert in front of a packed audience on 5 May. The show “There’s no Business like Show Business” saw Sixth Form students from the Performing Arts Faculty of Knutsford Academy perform a selection of songs from well known West End Musicals. Many of the performers sang solo numbers, interspersed with sets, combining acting, singing and dance, choreographed by the students themselves. The day before he became Knutsford Mayor for the second time, Neil Forbes attended the event and later tweeted “What a way to start Knutsford May Day, an amazing charity performance at Knutsford Academy #breakaleg”.
Although it’s the students who were the performers, the high quality of the event was an indication of the quality of the instruction, enthusiasm and guidance provided by the teaching staff at the Academy. Helen Mayne, Head of Performing Arts said, “We continue to be very proud of the performance achievements of the Musical Theatre students , with this performance being extra special to them as it raised yet more funds for our Faculty charity of 2016/17 the Teenage Cancer Trust Northwest.”
The Rotary Club of Knutsford was delighted to assist in the staging of the concert by organising many of the peripheral activities. In doing so, over £1300 was raised by the event, to be shared between East Cheshire Hospice, the Teenage Cancer Trust, and Knutsford Rotary, to support worthy causes throughout the year.
