Academy Partners with University of Oxford – 08/02/18
Knutsford Academy this week launched an exciting programme in partnership with the University of Oxford with the aim to increase applications to the university from students across the local area.
Target One Cheshire is a four year programme for the non-selective state schools of Cheshire which will be based at Knutsford Academy. The aim of the programme is to increase the number of students from non-selective state schools in Cheshire applying successfully to not only Oxford or Cambridge but also other prestigious leading Russell Group universities. The initiative includes access to many wide ranging academic placements at Oxford University such as week-long residential courses, university application workshops, robotics and material science conferences and other inspirational hands-on days out. This will be led by Oxford tutors from Pembroke College and organised locally at Knutsford Academy by Sarah Kirkham, Head of Sixth Form, and Dr Adam Greenstein, a school governor.
Knutsford Academy has been chosen as the hub because of their excellent recent results and pro-active attitude to increasing Oxbridge and other prestigious university applications. At the launch event on 6th February over 700 students and parents attended from eight local schools including Poynton, Fallibroome, Wilmslow, Sandbach, Sandbach School, Tarporley, Eaton Bank and Malbank, which included an introduction to the programme from Dr Peter Claus, Access Fellow, Pembroke College.
Mike Cladingbowl, Executive Principal of Knutsford Multi-Academy Trust commented, “Target One Cheshire is an unprecedented opportunity for the students in Cheshire, designed and delivered by one of the world’s top Universities. We will take full advantage of the incredible courses on offer and ensure that our fantastic students derive the maximum benefit.”
