Results Summer 2021 – Update (June 2021)
The government has cancelled GCSE/A Level and Vocational external exams this year as they feel they cannot be held fairly as a result of the disruption students have faced due to the pandemic.
Teachers will instead submit grades to the exam boards, based on their assessment of what students have shown they know and can do, enabling progression to the next stage of education, training, or employment.
Following guidance from JCQ (The Joint Qualifications Council) and the examination boards, teachers have been instructed to use a ‘range of evidence’ to justify submission of a holistic judgement of student grade. The evidence selected may be unit tests, mock exams, NEA (coursework, even if unfinished) or ‘substantial’ class or homework produced by the student throughout their course. This will also include the assessments that took place in early May this year.
The objective is to ensure that all students are assigned a fair, reasonable, and carefully considered judgement of their ability. Teachers are not allowed to share judgements with students or parents before results day, indeed, to do so would be deemed ‘malpractice’ by the examination boards and Ofqual.
We have shared with students which pieces of evidence were used to support the Teacher Assessed grades. These have then been subject to internal quality assurance practices, moderation across the Trust and between 18th June ( deadline for submission of TAGS to exam boards) and results days they will be subject to external checks by examination boards, to ensure that judgements are sound based on the evidence given.
Please find below a link to our Centre Policy which explains the process followed by both Knutsford Academy and Cheshire Studio school, in determining grades this summer. Also, please see the OFQUAL student guide for further information.
