  • The deepest spot on Earth is the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench. It is nearly 11 km below the surface of the ocean (7 miles) and only 3 people have ever ventured there.

Course Summary

History in Year 7 covers Medieval Britain. This fascinating period begins with the Battle of Hastings and the Norman Conquest. The ongoing challenges facing English kings is an important theme, including the rebellion of barons leading to Magna Carta and the reasons for the Peasants’ Revolt. This is also a study of ordinary medieval life, in villages and towns, where topics include crime and punishment and the Black Death.

Did you know that…

Under medieval law, animals could be tried and sentenced for crimes. There are records of farm animals being tried for injuring or killing people. Some mice were even taken to court for stealing part of the harvest!

Religious Studies in Year 7 covers:

The development of Church, state and society, 1509-1745 – How and with what consequences did England become a Protestant country?

This enquiry addresses the reigns of the Tudor monarchs, with the key focus on the English Reformation and its impact:

This module acts as an introduction to GCSE geography. Pupils study the exponential growth of global population and this issues that this has created. China is studied in detail, evaluating the infamous one-child policy.

Module 1: Ideas, political power, industry and empire: Britain, 1745-1901 – How did the Industrial Revolution impact on Britain’s society?

This enquiry focuses on Britain as the first industrial nation and aspects of the consequences for society:

It provides an opportunity to complete a local history study, seeing these key developments through the life and times of Quarry Bank Mill in Styal.

This enquiry focuses on Britain’s involvement in the international conflicts of World Wars One and Two. During the term the focus is on World War One:
